We designed this Cancer Awareness Bracelet for Katie, a two-year-old child with leukemia. Katie is now a seven-year-old girl in remission, thanks to some experimental medication and a bone marrow donor. This beautiful and precious child inspired over 600 people to register at the National Bone Marrow. Because of Katie, I carry my bone marrow registration card inside my wallet, knowing that someday I may be called to save a life. When you wear this gorgeous handcrafted bracelet, know that you are supporting a cure for cancer.
During Katie’s healing, her family and friends have been actively involved in several cancer charity causes. Within two weeks of her diagnosis, her friends organized a Bone Marrow Drive, and we placed brochures for the event at the local Starbucks, church and schools. Everyone started wearing yellow LiveStrong® Wristbands, and for over a year ,her Mom never cooked a meal. Her two older sisters attend a Christian School, where parents organized a meal plan, so that every day, a hot meal was delivered to her family. During the annual Scholastic Book fair, we designed a special box for book donations to Children’s Hospital, where Katie was a resident. Parents and children were praying without cessation, in dedicated power for healing this precious blonde toddler.
What I learned by Katie’s illness and my two-year-old nephews hospitalization with Type 1 Diabetes, is that parents coping with the illness of a child need the support of their community. They sit beside their ill child, day and night, and are unable to preform the simple tasks of living. When the community joins together, by cooking meals, praying, organizing blood and bone marrow drives, shipping books, flowers and toys to the hospital…it makes a difference. Reminding the cancer child and the supporting Mom or Dad that they are not forgotten, and that they are covered in a wall of prayer, delivers hope and comfort to the family. Katie’s family was blesssed to have a community of leaders, teachers, pastors and friends pull together for strength. While Katie and her Mom were miles away in a Denver hospital, her family and friends at home were gathered in support and prayer.
Katie’s story was so inspirational, she was a featured on a Denver television station. Katie’s family now travels to Denver each year to help raise funds for Brents Place, a home Katie stayed at for several months after her bone marrow transplant. They participate in the Team-in-Training for cancer, and in 2007 we designed Katie’s Message Bracelet with all profits donated to her team. She also participated in the Lance Armstrong LiveStrong event riding inside a yellow pram, wearing black and yellow colors to show awareness for her cause. Katie’s family wore black and yellow bracelets with Katie’s life verse- 1 Corinthians 13:13- FAITH, HOPE, LOVE.
We want to remind you that when you purchase Katies Message Bracelet, with your personalized words and sterling silver charm, you are supporting a cancer charity. We donate 100% of the profits from Katie’s Bracelet to her charities- not a single penny is left behind. Wearing this message of strength, courage and hope is a simple act of faith and a reminder to show support for those living with the cancer illness.
Please support cancer charities with your purchase of Katie’s Message Bracelet. Thank you and God Bless!
