Songs of Deliverance-Book Review

Songs of DeliveranceWhen the first two chapters of a novel begin with a visit to a pregnancy clinic, a college dorm, a bloody shooting and a cancer survivor…all I can say is Marilyn Griffith can write! Her latest novel, Songs of Deliverance, is a memorable and passionate story of childhood friends on a journey of redemption.

Each chapter of the book is written through the voice of the four childhood friends, and the setting changes as quickly as the characters.  Zeely, Grace, Ron and Brian were torn apart by their past and now reunited in their hometown of Testimony, Ohio. They begin to sort through their hidden secrets and lost relationships. Having grown up together, they’re now facing one another in dealing with their tragedies of their past. The four friends walk a spiritual journey as they give their troubles to God and reconnect in faith and friendship.

I enjoyed reading Songs of Deliverance as each chapter presented a new challenge or struggle. Throughout the book, the characters endured, faced mountains of resistance, battled emotional and physical health, and turned to their faith. The relationships repeated the theme of love and forgiveness, from parents and children to husbands and wives. The friends continue to face their past, their present struggles and their futures-all tied to one another living in their hometown.

The writing style of the author is visual and quite graphic, making me feel as if I was watching a television movie. It was easy to visualize the setting, the characters and many of the dramatic scenes. This book would be an excellent and entertaining movie to watch!

If you like rapid-reading, “can’t put the book down or go to bed until I get to the end” books, then this is a book for you. It’s fast paced, suspenseful, and full of drama. Songs of Deliverance is available from your favorite bookseller or Revell Books. Marilyn Griffith is also the author of the Shades of Style series and Rhythms of Grace. I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher Revell Books.

My Amazon Rating 5/5
